George Terris’ Story:
It began during rec soccer season when George rolled his ankle during a practice/game. The injury never quite healed up. Fast forward to January after a DNO basketball practice when the pain became unbearable in his ankle/leg.
One day later a tumor was found in his leg. After a biopsy it turned out to be cancerous. George was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. The good news, it hadn't spread to his brain or bone marrow. The bad news, he had 2 small nodules in his lungs along with the tumor in his leg.
"Right now you have cancer written on your chart, you will be fighting for your life the next year. Are you ready for the fight? Next year we want cancer free written on your chart"-not the words you want any newly 14 year old to hear.
George is an amazing kid. He has 4 of the 6 chemo treatments behind him. We had recently found out that the chemo was doing its job and shrinking all tumors-amazing news!
After round 6 of chemo, he will undergo surgery to remove the remaining tumor. The extent of surgery is unknown until they open up his leg.....amputation has yet to be ruled out.
Most likely this will be one of many surgeries depending upon what they find.
George is a much loved kid by his peers, they had a special day for him at DNO before he left to be homeschooled. You will see many kids and adults wearing "George Strong" apparel and bracelets around the neighborhood in support of him. In part with these efforts, please see the information below (click here to view pdf) about a poker tournament being held in support of George and his family.
ENLL wishes all the best for the Terris family.
